Six Quarterbacks Taken in First 12 Picks

The first round of the 2024 NFL Draft was dominated by offensive players, with six quarterbacks taken in the first 12 picks. The Chicago Bears selected USC quarterback Caleb Williams with the first overall pick, followed by the Indianapolis Colts taking Ohio State quarterback Kyle McCord at No. 2 and the Houston Texans selecting Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe at No. 3. Other quarterbacks taken in the first round included Texas A&M's Conner Weigman (No. 4, Washington Commanders), LSU's Jayden Daniels (No. 7, Carolina Panthers) and Oklahoma's Caleb Williams (No. 12, Las Vegas Raiders).

Other Notable Offensive Selections

In addition to the quarterbacks, several other notable offensive players were selected in the first round, including Washington wide receiver Rome Odunze (No. 5, Chicago Bears), North Carolina running back Evan Pryor (No. 6, Denver Broncos) and Ohio State wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba (No. 8, New York Giants). The first round was also highlighted by the selection of Georgia tight end Brock Bowers by the Tennessee Titans at No. 9.

Defensive Players Taken in First 12 Picks

Despite the dominance of offensive players in the first round, there were still several defensive players taken in the top 12 picks. The Jacksonville Jaguars selected Georgia cornerback Kelee Ringo with the second overall pick, while the Detroit Lions took Clemson defensive tackle Bryan Bresee at No. 10 and the New Orleans Saints selected Alabama linebacker Harold Perkins at No. 11. The first round also saw the selection of Pittsburgh defensive end Habakkuk Baldonado by the Minnesota Vikings at No. 12.
